▼a Sexuality is part of the human experience across the lifespan, seen as a central human need and a fundamental right. Sexual health education and learning occurs formally, in schools and institutions, and informally, from caregivers. Sexual health education received formally and informally is correlated with healthier sexual decision making, increased sexual knowledge and improved sexual self-concept. People with disabilities are often denied access to or given an altered script regarding sexual health education due to misconceptions about people with disabilities and sexuality and parent and educator fears. People with disabilities experience sexual development and feelings and benefit from information and education about sexual health. While people with developmental disabilities experience some disability-related impact to their sexuality, they still express a desire for sexual health information and experience the psychosocial benefits of this information |
