520 ▼a Studies have supported that employment improves health status and healthy people are more likely to work. Employment intervention and health promotion intervention are complementary to each other, and the integration of these two interventions in vocational rehabilitation (VR) will improve the health status of VR clients, leading to higher quality employment. Physical activity and exercise (PA&E), one of the most salient components of health promotion interventions, can limit the scope, impact, and extensive costs associated with disability-related secondary health conditions and prevent further comorbidity and mortality. However, lack of motivation is one of the key factors that prevents individuals from participating in PA&E that meets the recommended physical activity guidelines. Motivation focused health promotion intervention will have a higher chance of helping people with CID to participating PA&E. The Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) have been found to predict PA&E as a motivational model, and what is lacking is the explicit inclusion of a motivation construct-autonomous motivation. In the present study, an expanded HAPA model including autonomous motivation was evaluated to determine its potential as a PA&E model for community-dwelling adults with disabilities. The expanded HAPA constructs were found to be strong predictors of PA&E and accounted for 35% of the variation in PA&E. Autonomous motivation and PA&E self-efficacy were strongly associated with commitment and consequently influenced PA&E engagement. Rehabilitation counselors have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in promoting health behaviors of their clients. Results of the present study provide a clear conceptual framework for rehabilitation counselors to conceptualize assessment, planning, and intervention to help their clients live a healthy lifestyle, leading to better employment outcomes.
