520 ▼a Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a recessive X-linked childhood myopathy that is caused by a loss of dystrophin protein expression in cardiac and skeletal muscles. DMD patients develop profound skeletal muscle wasting with pronounced muscle weakness, often associated with eventual loss of cardiac and/or respiratory function. No effective treatment yet exists
