요약 | Research utilizing the temporal occlusion paradigm as an intervention for improving the decision-making of athletes has added greatly to the sport research literature. This line of scholarship has been particularly beneficial in improving the anticipatory processes of athletes engaging in interceptive activities (e.g., blocking a shot, catching a ball). Studies attempting to create and evaluate interventions aimed at improving decision-making in open-skill, complex sport tasks through the use of the temporal occlusion paradigm could further advance research in the area of decision-making in sport. The current study first reviews the cognitive mechanisms involved in decision-making in sport (e.g., working memory) as proposed by Tenenbaum (2004) and proposes how a temporal occlusion intervention could be created for a complex sport task. Upon review, despite working memory capacity's role in decision-making, there remains a dearth of empirical literature concerned with working memory and how it may be related tactical decision-making in sport. Therefore, Chapter II explores the implementation of computer-based learning modules to improve the tactical decision-making of 4 high school quarterbacks with varying levels of working memory capacity, utilizing a single-subject, multiple baseline design. The learning modules utilized a modified temporal occlusion paradigm |
