요약Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) exists ubiquitously in nature and engineering. Thanks to the development of computer hardware and mathematical formulations, numerical simulation has become a reliable tool to investigate FSI phenomena. A variety of software packages have been developed to provide flexible platforms to solve different FSI problems and facilitate the development of new numerical algorithms. Although these packages are very useful in their specific areas, they lack extensibility. Often times users need to extend the software to include their existing fluid/solid solver for special applications without breaking the FSI algorithm. Unfortunately, no existing software package provides a robust plug-and-go feature to accommodate external solvers. The goal of this study is to design and implement an extensible open-source software that allows users to plug in their existing fluid/solid solvers and perform FSI simulations. Besides, the software package should is designed to be efficient, and scalable in a parallel environment as much as possible. Furthermore, common pitfalls of academic code must be avoided, such as poor reproducibility and lack of documentation. The result of this study is an open-source software named OpenIFEM, which is publicly available at GitHub.To fulfill the goals, this work begins with critically reviewing existing FSI formulations in order to seek for a suitable one. mIFEM is a partitioned FSI algorithm which allows fluid and solid governing equations to be solved on separate meshes with Eulerian and Lagrangian descriptions respectively. The interaction between fluid and solid are reflected by the FSI force and fluid traction, which are both applied as boundary conditions. Several major advantages are brought by this: firstly, a modular implementation of fluid and solid solvers is made possible since there are no intrinsic requirements on how they solve the governing equations
