요약 | Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disability that is characterized by social communication deficits, repetitive behaviors and/or restricted interests (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Given the social deficits of children with ASD, it is important for children with ASD to be explicitly taught how to read emotional situations and be able to take the perspective of another person. Given the previous qualitative research of the Emotes program by a research team at Loyola Marymount University, the curriculum, Emotes was chosen to be implemented as an intervention with children diagnosed with ASD. This study utilized a non-concurrent multiple baseline across participants single case design to determine whether Emotes was an effective intervention for children with ASD. The intervention was provided to four participants, 2 males and 2 females in their homes, with staggered implementation to ensure optimal experimental control. This proposed study examined the growth of emotional knowledge and emotional vocabulary. It additionally studied the impact upon a child's social skills and problem behaviors pre and post intervention, through parental report. |
