요약 | How did we get from the "acid koolaid test" to the 4chan "redpill"? This dissertation contributes to historical scholarship's understanding of right-wing political consciousness--as a state of consciousness. While a number of academic fields and subfields have provided rich and textured analyses of right-wing social movements, they are couched within normative frameworks wherein far-left and far-right positions are understood as paranoid deviations from an imaginary norm. What if our taxonomies focused upon emergence rather than identity-on political differential, over political difference? What are the bits of human culture that matter in a foundational way? What can radical, but objective empathy reveal about the discursive crossroads of material reality and paranoid perception? Memes.Contributing to the decades long transnational turn in American Studies, this project rejects mid-century, Cold War, domestic US psychological frameworks |
